FilmSplit turns football game film into play-by-play clips. This policy explains what we collect to do that, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. FilmSplit is operated by Halfling Development Services, LLC ("we"). Questions go to contact@filmsplit.com. Using FilmSplit is also covered by our terms of service.
The short version
- No accounts, no cookies, no ads, no analytics and no third-party trackers.
- We use your game film to make your clips. During the free beta, using FilmSplit also means you let us keep a small, silent copy of the film and use it to train and improve how FilmSplit finds plays. We never sell film, share it for advertising or let anyone else train AI on it.
- Your review page, clips and the full film are deleted automatically after 7 days. The training copy is kept for up to 3 years. Deleting a game from its review page deletes both right away.
- Only people with a game's review link can see it, and review pages are hidden from search engines.
What we collect
Game film you give us. When you paste a Veo match link, our servers download that match's video from Veo. When you upload a video, we store the file you upload. Game film usually shows players, many of them minors, as well as coaches, officials and spectators, and it may include sideline audio.
What we make from it. To find the plays we create a low-resolution copy of the game (including its audio track, if it has one), small thumbnail images, play timings and motion data. When you export, we create the clips you asked for. Clips are exported without audio unless you choose to include it.
Your edits. The changes you make on the review page, such as which plays to keep and where each clip starts and ends.
What we keep for training (free beta). When a game is processed we keep a training copy: a small (640 pixels wide), silent copy of the film with its sound removed, the plays we found, the plays and clip settings you export, and measurements we compute from the film, such as how much of the field is moving at each moment and when whistles blew. The training copy has no title, file name, link or other note of whose game it is.
Technical information. Like any website, our hosting provider records server logs: IP address, browser type, the time of each request and the pages requested, which can include a game's review link. To stop abuse, we also keep a one-way scrambled form of your IP address in memory for up to 24 hours to limit how many games one network can process each day. It is never written to disk.
On your device only. Your browser remembers your recent games, any unsaved edits and your sound preference (and an access code, if this site requires one). This stays in your browser's local storage; it is not sent to us, and you can clear it in your browser settings.
Email. If you email us, we keep your message and address to reply.
We do not collect names, accounts, payment details or precise location.
How we use it
- To find the plays, show them to you for review and cut your clips.
- To improve how FilmSplit finds plays: we review training copies, compare the plays we found with the clips coaches exported, and train our own play-detection models on them. During the free beta this is a condition of using FilmSplit.
- To keep the service secure and working, including preventing abuse and fixing errors.
- To answer your messages.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, we process this information because it is needed to provide the service you asked for, and for our legitimate interests in keeping it secure and improving how it finds plays.
Who can see your film
Each game gets a long random review link. Anyone who has that link can watch the game and its clips, so share it only with people you trust, such as your coaching staff. Games are never listed publicly, and review links tell search engines not to index them.
We use these service providers, which process data only on our behalf:
- Google Cloud runs our servers and keeps the server logs described above.
- Cloudflare stores game copies and clips and delivers your downloads.
- Veo is where we fetch a match from when you give us a Veo link. Veo sees that request coming from our servers.
- AI providers, such as Anthropic, which we may use to help label plays in training copies. They process film only for us and may not use it to train their own models.
Training copies are never shown to other users or published, and the models we train do not contain your film.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
How long we keep it
- Game film (including uploaded video files), low-resolution copies, thumbnails, the review page and clips: deleted automatically 7 days after the game is created, or as soon as you delete the game.
- Training copies (the silent low-resolution film, play times, your exported edits and motion measurements): up to 3 years, or until you delete the game or ask us to delete it.
- Server logs: kept by our hosting provider for about 30 days.
- The scrambled IP used for daily limits: up to 24 hours, in memory only.
- Emails: as long as needed to respond.
Film of children
FilmSplit is meant for adults: coaches, team staff and parents. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Youth game film shows young players, so please submit only film you are allowed to use, for example as the team's coach or with the film owner's permission. We use it to make clips for you and, during the free beta, to improve play detection as described above, and delete it on the schedule above. To have a game removed sooner, delete it from its review page or email contact@filmsplit.com with the review link.
Your choices and rights
You can delete any game at any time from its review page, which also deletes its training copy. Depending on where you live (for example California and other US states, the EEA or the UK) you may also have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to how we use it. Email contact@filmsplit.com and we will respond within 30 days. Because we have no accounts, include the review link for any game your request is about. We will not treat you differently for making a request. If you are in the EEA or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising. Because we do not track you across sites, there is nothing for browser "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signals to switch off.
Security
All traffic uses HTTPS. Stored film is private and reachable only through review links and short-lived download links. We keep as little as we can, for as short a time as we can.
Where data is processed
Our service providers may store and process data in the United States and other countries where they operate.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If we start collecting something new, for example when we add paid plans, we will update this policy before that change goes live.
